Hello Parents!
I want to thank you for your understanding during this unprecedented time of change and uncertainty. Thank you for your support and partnership! As you know, I view Summer camp as a highlight of our youth calendar. The teens are surrounded by God’s Word constantly, and make many God-honoring decisions. I am still committed to doing everything we can to make summer camp a possibility for as many teens as we can this summer. Concerning camp, we are once again faced with a change and therefore yet another adjustment. I think we are all getting used to adjustments. They are our “new normal."

Most of our teens are registered for Week 4 at the Wilds (June 22-27), and approximately 10 are registered for week 3 (June 15-20). Many of you received the following email from the Wilds about camp this summer.
________________________________________________________
"Dear Friends,
….
We know God controls all things, and we are committed to honor our authorities by abiding by the mandates placed upon us by the State of North Carolina. Even though we have worked hard to answer many questions, we have no answer to our biggest question: “What limitations will be placed on us for the summer?” Based on what we do know at this time, we’ve had to make the hard decision to dramatically adjust our 2020 Summer schedule.
  1. Sadly, we must cancel the first three weeks of camp. They are June 1-6 (week 1), June 8-13 (week 2), and June 15-20 (week 3). The reopening phases that are being followed by North Carolina do not allow us to have camp during this time.
  2. Presently, the remainder of our weeks (beginning with June 22) are proceeding as scheduled.
  3. However, we found a way to open another week of camp—August 10-15. We are now accepting campers for Teen Camp and JBC, and we would like to give preference to campers who are immediately affected by these cancellations. Those who transfer to August 10-15 will receive a $50 discount on their camp fee.
What happens now?
  1. You may change your week to one with current availability:  July 13-18; July 27-August 1; August 3-8; August 10-15. Please contact our registration office by phone (864-331-3286) or e-mail (tw.summer.camps@wilds.org) to change weeks. (With all of these changes, please keep in mind that we are guessing at our capacity limits, and we will have to make changes if the government requires us to do so.)
  2. You may transfer your registration to Summer 2021, if you desire.
  3. You may request a full refund. If you would be led to leave your deposit with us as a tax-deductible donation, that would greatly help The Wilds during this challenging time.
  4. As we get additional information on government directives, we will update you by e-mail.
Please pray with us for the relaxation of some of these limitations. We desperately need His guidance in each decision along the way. We believe that in spite of everything, the Lord is well able to give us the most spiritually profitable summer in our history. We are praying for you during this time as well!”

So what are the next steps for Youth EDGE?

1. I have decided to transfer ALL of our campers (weeks 3 AND 4) to July 13-18!

The Wilds in currently processing that change in our registrations. Here is a response that I received from the Wilds about the transfer:

"If someone would logon and look at their registration, it would say that they are on a waiting list after we transfer them. We are currently putting everyone on a waiting list in order to keep control over all of the registrations.”

So please be patient with them as they sort through their massive registration shifts as well. From my correspondence with the Wilds, our whole group will fit into July 13-18 as long as the state capacity guidelines allow it at that time. Thank you for your patience and understanding during a crazy time.

Why move to July 13-18?

To follow through with our churches philosophy of including as many teenagers as possible in a summer camp ministry!
  • As I watch the NC guidelines unfold, I suspect that even June 22-27 will be VERY limited due to NC gathering guidelines, and therefore we run a higher risk of being canceled completely. NC has not announced their plans for a capacity limit through June yet, but has proven to move slowly towards re-opening.
  • I made a quick decision to move to July 13-18 so that emptier weeks do not fill up before we are able to take advantage of their openings.
  • Being further down the NC re-opening timeline, July 13-18 provides a higher probability of all of our campers fitting than June 22-27.
  • Those who registered for June 15-20 will be offered an alternative to attend camp.
  • July 13 places us past ALL planned restrictions here in our home state of Indiana, therefore reducing complications for us attending camp.

I understand that this change in schedule may conflict with some families’ schedules. I am deeply sorry for the inconvenience. If your teen is unable to attend because of the change, please let me know. I ask that you would not log-in to the Wilds registration website and cancel your teen’s registration on your own. Please communicate with me, and I will cancel it for you or use that reserved spot for another teen to be able to attend camp this summer.

If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.

Praying for your Families,
Pastor Brandon
